High school senior Parris Garant has been named a Scholar-Artist by the Long Island Arts Alliance for her vocal talents.

To earn the title, which is bestowed annually to just 21 students from across Long Island, the Port Jefferson native participated in a highly competitive selection process. As part of that process, she was required to submit a video of herself singing in English and Italian, as well as compose an essay.

“I was very surprised when I learned that I was recognized,” said Parris. “I hope that this honor will help me to further my goals and dreams.”

Parris, who sings in the All-County Choir and her school’s choir and chamber choir, has hopes of studying general music at Boston’s Berklee College of Music or Northeastern University in the fall.

In addition to singing, Parris is a violinist and sits second chair in the school’s orchestra. She is also vice president of the school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society.
