Elementary students had a colorful Read Across America celebration in
the school library for the annual recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Organized by librarian Ms. Selinda Stout, students and staff were
encouraged to wear striped socks and crazy hats. Dr. Seuss coloring
books and other activities were available, and The Cat in the Hat and
The Grinch were on hand to greet students and hand out tokens for the
school’s book vending machine. The highlight of the day was students at
all grade levels who served as guest readers and read aloud their
favorite stories to their classmates. They were Timothy Amadio, Lina
Awadallah, Allie Blumenthal, Adrian Diaz, Avery Eisaman and Sophie
Franck. Leading up to the event, students participated in a raffle with
prizes donated by local businesses such as Applebee’s, Kilwins Chocolate
Shop, Panera, Port Jeff Bowl and Roger’s Frigate. Ms. Stout thanked
each reader and complimented their abilities in reading aloud to their
peers in the school’s efforts to promote independent reading.
