Students in Mrs. Carleen Parmegiani’s second-grade class are continuing
to refine their English Language Arts skills and recently had a
culminating celebration to highlight their non-fiction writing
curriculum. The students wrote and illustrated their own fact-based
books, choosing a topic based on their knowledge including pets, sports
and holiday traditions, among others. Family members, administrators,
teachers and other students in the school stopped by to hear the stories
and see the illustrations that the class members created. They also
decorated their desks with props from their stories to encourage
additional questions from their visitors and created a bulletin board to
display their final products. “The students were so excited to share
their writing,” Mrs. Parmegiani said, noting that the event also helps
to build their social and public speaking skills.
